The Travel Card
The Travel Card enables the holder to travel free or at a half fare
on the following services:
FREE SERVICES
LOCAL BUS SERVICES All journeys both starting and finishing
within The Highland Council area. Free tickets cannot be pre-booked.
FERRY SERVICES
Camusnagual- Fort William Cape Wrath Ferry
Mallaig-Armadale Mallaig-Loch Nevis Mallaig-Small Isles
Raasay-Sconser
HALF FARE SERVICES
BUS SERVICES
Half fare travel for all cross-boundary journeys either starting or
finishing within The Highland Council area on the following routes:
Fort William–Oban Inverness–Aberdeen
Inverness–Edinburgh Inverness–Glasgow
Uig–Fort Willaim–Edinburgh via either Glasgow or Stirling
DIAL-A-BUS and SUBSIDISED TAXIS
Kinlochbervie, Assynt and Dunvegan Subsidised Taxis
Argay/ Bonar Bridge, Lairg, Rosehall and Dornoch Dial-a-Buses
Glenelg and Portree to Trotternish Evening Taxi services

TRAIN SERVICES
Single, Saver, Supersaver and Cheap Day Return tickets at half the
normal fare on scheduled train services within Highland. Train tickets
are for Standard Class only.
FERRY SERVICES
Single tickets (and day return or short break tickets where these
exist) at half the normal fare on the following services:
Kilchoan–Tobermory Lochaline–Fishnish
Oban–Craignure
The Council reserves the right to alter the benefits available to
card holders during the currency of the card.
TRAVEL CARDS DO NOT ENTITLE HOLDERS TO REDUCED RATES FOR CARS OR
CYCLES ON TRAIN OR FERRY SERVICES.

How to get your Travel Card
The Travel Card is available free of charge at any Post Office,
Sub-Post Office, Council Service Point or Library in Highland. You must
take with you:
Proof that you are resident of Highland.
A recent passport sized photograph of yourself (see page 5).
EITHER proof of age (if applying as a Senior Citizen)
OR A Certificate of Eligibility from your local Social Work Area
Office (if applying under categories 3, 4, 5 or 6 on page 6 of this
leaflet). IF APPLYING AT A COUNCIL SERVICE POINT proof that you
are in receipt of one of the following benefits will be accepted in
place of the Certificate of Eligibility:
War Pensioner’s Mobility Supplement
Mobility Allowance
Higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living
Allowance
Please note that an expired card is not acceptable as proof of
eligibility for a new card.
The card is valid for five years from the date of issue.
LOST CARDS
If you lose your Travel Card a replacement may be obtained from any
Post Office, Service Point of Library on providing proof of eligibilit

Who can hold a Travel Card?
You may hold a Travel Card if you are a resident of the Highland
Council area and:
you are a woman aged 60 or over
OR
you are a man aged 65 or over (from 1 April 2003 men aged 60
or over)
OR
you are profoundly deaf
OR
you are or would be disqualified from holding a driving licence on
medical grounds
OR
you have a permanent disability which seriously impairs your
ability to walk
OR
you suffer from a mental disorder within the meaning of the
Mental Health (Scotland) Act 1984.
COMPANION CARD
If you need help when travelling by public transport you may be
eligible for a Companion Card entitling your travelling companion to
travel at half fare. Ask for details at your local Social Work Office.
Your local Social Work Office will be able to advise you if you have any
queries about those aspects of the scheme.
DATA PROTECTION ACT 1998: The
data controller is The Highland Council. The details supplied by you on
this form may be held in a Travel Card Register by The Highland
Council for administrative purposes but will not be disclosed to or sold
to others for any purpose other than the issue and updating of Travel
Cards without your prior approval unless this is a legal
requirement. The Highland Council is under a duty to protect public
funds it administers, and to this end may use the information you have
provided on this form within the council for the prevention and
detection of fraud. It may also share this information with other bodies
administering public funds solely for this purpose. You have a right to
see personal information held on you by the council on making written
application and paying if appropriate a statutory fee.
